Design and Build
The aluminum body has a clean, minimal style and feels sturdy overall. Matte surfaces hide fingerprints well. The hinge is smooth and stable, and the laptop stays portable for regular travel. Build quality is good, though the lid can flex slightly under pressure.
Display and Audio
The 14-inch 1920x1200 IPS panel uses a practical 16:10 ratio and reaches up to 400 nits brightness, which is useful both indoors and in brighter environments. The matte finish helps reduce glare. Color coverage is limited for professional color-critical work, and response time is not ideal for fast gaming. Speakers are clear enough for media, but bass is modest.
Keyboard and Input
The keyboard is comfortable for long typing sessions, with clear key travel and backlighting. There is no numpad, which is expected for this size. The glass touchpad is smooth, accurate, and supports multitouch gestures well. A fingerprint scanner is included for quick sign-in.
Performance and Daily Use
With the Core i7-1165G7, 16 GB RAM, and SSD storage, the system handles office work, browsing, communication apps, and multitasking without issues. The GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q adds extra headroom for heavier apps and entry-level gaming, while very demanding modern titles require lower settings.
Ports, Connectivity, and Battery
Connectivity is modern and practical: USB-A, Thunderbolt 4 over USB-C, HDMI, microSD, plus Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. In web browsing use, battery life is reported around 9-10 hours, while heavy load drains the battery much faster. Fan noise stays low in light use but becomes clearly audible under load.
Verdict
HP Envy 14 (2021) is a balanced option for users who want a portable laptop with stronger-than-average multimedia performance. Its main strengths are compact size, good everyday speed, useful port selection, and solid battery life in typical workloads. The main compromises are soldered memory and louder fan behavior during heavy tasks.
