May 13, 2020 By Notebook Center Editorial Team HP
Summary: The HP 240 G7 is a low-cost 14-inch office laptop with Core i3-7020U, 8 GB RAM, and a 256 GB SSD, but its HD TN display is the main compromise.

Editor note: This article is an original English adaptation of a Notebook-Center.ru review, rewritten for Notebook Center readers.

Overview

The HP 240 G7 is positioned as an affordable work laptop in this configuration, with an Intel Core i3-7020U processor, 8 GB of memory, and a 256 GB SSD. It is aimed at office tasks, web work, and everyday document use. The main limitation is the 14-inch matte display with a 1366x768 resolution and TN panel characteristics.

Design and Build

This model follows a simple business style with a dark gray plastic chassis and matte surfaces. The look is restrained and practical. Build quality is described as neat for the class, with no major panel gaps or creaking, though the plastic does not feel especially rigid. At 1.62 kg, it is portable but not especially light for a 14-inch device.

Display, Audio, and Webcam

The display is the weakest area. It uses a basic HD TN panel with limited viewing angles and modest brightness. The matte finish helps reduce reflections but also gives a softer image impression. The two-speaker audio setup is functional but thin, with limited low-frequency presence. The HD webcam is suitable for regular video calls, including indoor use.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The island-style keyboard is comfortable for daily typing, with a familiar key layout and quiet key response. There is no backlight and no numeric keypad, which is expected in this segment. The touchpad is large enough for routine navigation and supports multitouch gestures, while the physical buttons require a firmer press.

Performance

With the Core i3-7020U and integrated Intel HD Graphics 620, the HP 240 G7 is intended for basic workloads: office applications, browsing, and document handling. It is not designed for demanding modern games or heavy content creation. The included 8 GB RAM and SSD help responsiveness in everyday tasks.

Ports and Battery Life

Connectivity is a strong point for this class. The laptop includes USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, Ethernet, an SD card reader, and a combo audio jack, plus Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.2. The 41 Wh battery delivers moderate runtime: around a little over six hours in video playback and about one and a half hours under high load, based on the source review.

Verdict

The HP 240 G7 is a practical entry-level laptop for users who need an affordable system for everyday office and study tasks. Its key advantages are functional configuration, useful port selection, and a comfortable keyboard. The clear trade-off is display quality, so it is best for buyers who prioritize price and basic productivity over screen performance.
