Design and Build

The Vostro 14 5402 uses a mostly plastic body with an aluminum-alloy lid. At 1.36 kg and 18 mm thickness, it is convenient for commuting and regular travel. The design is restrained and office-friendly, with matte surfaces and narrow display bezels. The hinge can slightly lift the rear when opened, which helps typing angle and airflow. The source review also notes some flex around the lid and keyboard deck under pressure.

Display, Audio, and Camera

The 14-inch Full HD IPS panel provides wide viewing angles and a matte finish, which helps reduce reflections. The reported brightness level is around 220 nits, so outdoor or very bright-room use can feel limited. Dual 2 W speakers are tuned with Waves MaxxAudio Pro and are acceptable for calls and casual media. The 720p webcam includes a privacy shutter, which is useful for business communication.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard is backlit and described as spill-resistant, which is practical for long workdays. Key travel is short with clear feedback, and the layout is mostly standard. The touchpad is wide enough for daily navigation and supports multitouch gestures without major delay.

Performance

For office workloads, web use, documents, presentations, and light photo editing, the Core i5-1135G7 and Intel Iris Xe Graphics provide solid mid-range performance. The 8 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD help the system feel responsive in routine multitasking. This is not a high-end gaming machine, but the integrated GPU can handle lighter titles at moderate settings.

Ports and Battery

Physical connectivity is a strength for business users: HDMI, USB Type-C with DisplayPort, two USB 3.2 ports, RJ-45 Ethernet, microSD, and a combined audio jack are all included. Thunderbolt is not listed in this model. The 40 Wh battery is rated in the source review for roughly 7-8 hours of web work or 5-6 hours of video playback at reduced brightness.

Verdict

The Dell Vostro 14 5402 is a practical option for small-business and everyday productivity needs. Its key advantages are portability, a usable keyboard, broad port selection, and balanced Core i5-class performance. The main compromises are modest display brightness, no Thunderbolt, and some chassis flex. Overall, it is a functional mid-range business laptop rather than a premium one.
